At New Life Clarion, the ministry on campus is led by Scott Underhill. While Scott serves  at PennWest Clarion, he is not alone—he’s part of a statewide team through the Baptist Resource Network (BRN), partnering with other ministers across Pennsylvania and New Jersey to make the name of Jesus Christ known.

And when we say “we,” that includes you. Every Bible study taught, every student welcomed, and every gospel conversation shared is possible because of the prayers and support of our partners. This is truly a group mission—together we are lifting up Christ on campus.
BASIC at PennWest Clarion
Our campus presence is called BASIC—Brothers and Sisters in Christ. This is where students at PennWest Clarion (formerly Clarion University) find community, encouragement, and opportunities to grow in their faith.
During these crucial college years, students are navigating the transition into adult life. Through Bible studies, outreach, and discipleship, we walk with them as they deepen their relationship with Jesus and learn what it means to follow Him for a lifetime.

Scott and Briana Underhill love Clarion. Our family moved here from North Carolina in 2011 with a deep desire to make disciples of all nations—starting right here at PennWest Clarion and in our community.
Each year, God shapes this mission in new ways, and we are simply along for the ride—grateful for His leading and for the partners who walk with us. We rely daily on the Father, Son, and Spirit to guide our steps.

We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and commissioned by the North American Mission Board (NAMB) as MSC missionaries. Our work is fully supported by the prayers and gifts of individuals and churches called to partner with us. On campus, we serve under the Baptist Resource Network of Pennsylvania/South Jersey (BRN), bringing the gospel to students at PennWest Clarion.
